Soli Deo Gloria

I just want to say, glory to God alone! For all things, for my life, for my family, for my friends, for my brethren in the faith. For the persecuted church, for the weak in faith, for the elect all over the world, for all things, and in all things may the glory go to God alone. It amazes me how we often neglect to mention the glory due to God. Just the other day I was involved in a discussion with a couple of other brothers and one of them mentioned that their mom had backed the car into the mailbox or a tree or something like that. So that started us off on the path of remembrance. Another brother began to tell his story about how he was backing his car out of the driveway and didn’t notice the telephone pole behind him. He mentioned that he didn’t hit it, but it scared him when he realized how close he was and how oblivious he was to the pole. Here is a quote from the brother, “It was only by chance that I didn’t hit that telephone pole.” We all gave words of agreement and moved on in our conversation.

It wasn’t until the next day that I started thinking over the conversation and realized just how this brother had failed to attribute his safety to God and give Him the glory for it. Rather he gave glory to “chance.” Come let us worship chance, let us bow down to chance, let us be ruled and governed by chance. No, he wouldn’t say those things, but it’s just as wrong.

This should be the cry of our heart, it is from Psalm 115, verse 1,“Not to us, O LORD, not to us, but to your name give glory, for the sake of your steadfast love and your faithfulness!” Did he not recognize the mercy of God, that God didn’t allow him to smash his car into the telephone pole? I pray that God would show him this error and he would repent of it immidetly incase “chance” isn’t around to save him next time. Let us always look for opportunities to praise God and give Him thanks for all He’s done, and kept us from doing. Let us give Him glory always.

Psalm 44:8, “In God we have boasted continually,
and we will give thanks to your name forever.”
